COACHING CONTRACT/AGREEMENT. The concept might sound too official in the first moment, but what does it cover exactly? We also sign numerous agreements in our everyday lives: ones related to work, marriage, flat rental, confidentiality... but what does a coaching agreement look like? Today I am trying to give a tangible answer to this question, understandable for everyone.


WHY IS THE COACHING AGREEMENT IMPORTANT?

In coaching, we enter into an agreement in the beginning of each session, within its frames the two parties clarify the basic rules of their cooperation. The coaching contract ensures rules, guidance. It provides security, symbolizes commitment and taking on common responsibility.


WHICH ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT ELEMENTS OF THE COACHING AGREEMENT?

The most important elements of the coaching agreement: the two parties entering it, the subject of the agreement, the rights and obligations of the parties, the period and deadline of the contract, ethical elements, the consequences for non-compliance, fees and costs, references to legislation, signature.


WHAT DOES A COACHING CONTRACT NEVER COVER?

Increasing direct financial income, changing personality, inducing inner commitment, motivation, development of professional knowledge, consultancy/psychotherapy.


WHAT IS THE USE OF THE COACHING CONTRACT?

It provides frameworks, spares time, defines financial/legal liability.


COACHING CONTRACT VS. RISKS?

The contract helps the prevention of rushed decisions, clarifies legal consequences, eliminates unnecessary work for both parties.


DOES IT HAPPEN IN WRITING OR ORALLY?

In the beginning of the coaching process a written contract covering the whole process is needed, additionally it is important to have an oral agreement in the beginning of each session as well.


COACHING AGREEMENT: CONTRACT OF SERVICES OR SUPPLY CONTRACT?

Always contract of services, never supply contract.


WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE COACH IN THE COACHING AGREEMENT?

The timely closing of the session, keeping the professional, temporal and process framework, ethical operation, progressing towards the set objective.


WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CLIENT (COACHEE)?

Ensuring priority for the coaching, commitment, 'owning' the problem, openness, being active in undertaking, determination of measures of objectives and success.
